India, formally the Republic of India, is basically a land-locked country in South Asia, bordering various countries. It is currently the second-most populated country, second only to China, and the seventh-most populated democracy in the whole world. The land mass of India consists of lands that are separated into many provinces or states. Many major cities in India have been developed into metropolises, which form the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, and Jharkhand. There are also numerous princely states like Gujarat and Rajasthan, which form the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan respectively.

Taj Mahal

This amazing structure, a century old now, was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his dear wife Mumtaz Mahal, who was killed in World War II. The marble structure of the Taj Mahal was completed just as it was designed, and is one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture. Built on the bank of the river Yamuna, the Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of art and symmetry, with its intricate carvings, floral designs and gold decorations. It is said that when the Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan, it took almost twenty years to complete it, as it required many sacrifices.

During the time of World War II

During the time of World War II, while the country was under the control of the British, a lot of effort went into restoring the historical Mughal capital of Agra. The British decided to rebuild the city in the same style as it was destroyed in the World War II, and as a result the Taj Mahal was done in a regal style, just as it was meant to be. Once the marble structure was finished, people flocked to see it, as they believed it was a miracle. Within a few months, the tourists were amazed to find that it was not only in Agra but also in many other cities across the country. Since then, it has become an indelible part of the Mughal culture, just as the tombs of the Hindu gods in Varanasi were.

Over the past few decades, India has emerged as one of the biggest tourist destinations, attracting millions of tourists across the globe. Tourists from all over india visit India every year, in order to experience the warmth and flavor of its people. The most popular of Hindu temples in India are – Lord Brahma Temple at Pushkar, idols of Hindu gods at Rameswaram, Khajuraho Temples at Mussoorie, and Sarnath, a burial place for Hindu religious scholars. There are also many Hindu pilgrimage centers in India, which draw thousands of Hindu tourists.
